SOS Labyrinthe

“Out of all the activities there are to choose from in Montreal, the Labyrinthe has ranked number one over and over again!”
Kim Souza, Visit Canada, U.S. Tour Group Operator, November 1995

“Kids lose parents in giant maze …a full hour-and-a-half of laughing, running and screaming… A week later, they were still talking about the giant maze.”
Press-Republican, Plattsburgh, NY, July 1994

“Obviously, they’re having fun like crazy …in the great labyrinth game, last year’s most popular activity, beating even IMAX.”

Choosing to entertain with interactive animation

SOS Labyrinthe is an attraction that was created and implemented in 1991. Located in a hangar on a pier of the Old Port of Montreal, SOS rapidly became Montrealers’ preferred summer attraction, providing fun and adventure to over a million guests in its 8 summer-seasons of existence.

Based on a Mystery Cargo Ship theme, this Great Adventure Game unfolds in a 45,000 square foot megamaze.

Guests explore two kilometres of passageways filled with exciting challenges and events in search of the Captain’s Bridge, the Engine Room, the Cargo Hold and the Sailors’ Quarters. The fun lies as much in the adventure itself as in reaching its outcome.

Players spend on average between 45 to 90 minutes exploring the Mystery Cargo Ship, while some get kick out of trying to complete the course in 20 minutes or less.

The maze configuration changes weekly, offering renewed challenges to the regulars who always keep coming back for more.

The Mystery Cargo-ship is animated by a crew of in-line-skating sailors who spend their time interacting with guests. And since a mega-maze provides endless opportunities for interaction, the sailors, selected for their deft touch and great sense of humour, are always ready to help guests… get lost!

Over the years, new themes were inserted into the main theme, to the renewed pleasure of guests and animators alike.

This interactive attraction concept has more than proven its viability:

  • Reasonable investment
  • High returns
  • Low tech
  • Highly interactive
