SINGAPORES'S QUEST FOR THE ORACLE ©
Themeing and technology supporting an interactive event

This event concept was created for Singapore at the behest of the Programming Department of the Esplanade. Co. Ltd. The mandate consisted in proposing a high impact event, outdoors and for the whole family, to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

The theme takes its inspiration from Asia’s legendary infatuation with luck and the games of chance.

Throughout the evening, all visitors to the Esplanade are called upon to uncover their personal oracle for the New Year. This they may accomplish in 3 ways:

They may simply consult their oracle by interacting with touch-screen computers laid-out throughout the Esplanade.

The more adventurously-inclined can choose to go on a treasure-hunt, a “Quest for the Oracle” in 22 steps in which they receive their clues via cell phone.

The most courageous may also obtain their oracle by enlisting to the Five Game Challenge in the Play Arena, where their antics will be viewed by all on giant screens.

Regardless of how they choose to get involved, participants will each receive a printed version of their personal oracle along with a form on which they may add-in wishes for themselves, their family, for Singapore and for the whole world. These messages of hope will then be tied-up to balloons to be released in the air at the stroke of midnight.

Throughout the evening, each personal oracle will be generated by an electronic entity supporting all the operation. By compiling together all generated oracles, the entity will produce in the end a collective oracle for all of Singapore, an oracle it will then reveal on giant screens just before the midnight fireworks.

The unveiling of the collective oracle combined with the fireworks and with the releasing of the messages of hope will unite all Singaporeans in a great moment of joy, pride and contemplation.
