ruins accurate to the last glyph. Participants in the game…learn

mysteries…no one has ever done that before… Chartier
has outdone himself this year.”
The Gazette, Montreal, Canada, May 1999
“In
labyrinths, in mazes, you can bring the whole family through…it

A
fabulous Mayan temple has just been unearthed during excavations
in Cancun, Mexico. Become an explorer and follow on the footsteps
of Ka Satun, Maya hero of the first millennium!
Enter the Temple of Mysteries and uncover its four fabulous
worlds of Fire, Air, Water and Earth. But explorers beware!
Don’t be unnerved by the numerous obstacles and traps
protecting each of these worlds!
The 45 to
60 minute experience unfolds inside a life-size mega-maze of
adventure. Explorers scour the themed passageways in search of
artefacts, 20 elements left by Ka Satun.
Briefed on
their mission at game start, explorers also receive a guidebook
in the form of a codex.
While on their
journey, explorers encounter 4 Maya worlds ruled by gods and
home to very peculiar animal-spirits.
At the heart
of each world lies a temple in which explorers discover Mayan
art and architecture as well as the basics of Mayan cosmogony,
astronomy, mathematics, glyphs, social order and lifestyle. In
this way they may acquire a lot of knowledge on the Mayan civilisation.
By decoding
the frescoes and glyphs adorning the temples, explorers find
the solutions to the 20 enigmas of their codex; each enigma has
a direct link to one of the 20 artefacts they are searching for.
In order to
reach the temples, explorers must face and overcome or avoid
a series of obstacles, challenges and events standing in their
way.
When players
receive their codex at breifing time, they are also given a key
containing a RFID detection chip. This microchip links each player
to the Master Tracker, an electronic play-management system.
The
Master tracker follows each player in the maze and controls all
of the interactive challenges and events. It may, for instance,
open or close doors at a whim, thus personalizing a challenge
to each player.
Each
time a player captures an artefact, the master Tracker records
the event and grants a certain number of points. Thus the Master
tracker gradually builds a database for each player while keeping
a memory of each player’s individual
journey.
At
the end of the adventure, The Master Tracker awaits with an interactive
quiz. This quiz verifies each player's newly
acquired knowledge on the Maya.
The Master
tracker then rewards each player with an explorer title correponding
to his level of accomplishment and of acquired knowledge.
Merchandising
products personalized to each explorer are created from the data
collected by the Master Tracker:
Fully
personalized adventure storybooks that tell in vivid detail the
unique adventure experienced by each player;
Maya glyphs
corresponding to the name, age, date-of-birth of each player
are printed on T-shirts, coffee mugs, apron and puzzles;
Necklaces
and bracelets representing the 20 artefacts.
Players leave
the venue with completely personalized and unique souvenirs of
their experience.
MayaVentura
is one of the world's most advanced interactive entertainment
attractions. It features signature RFID technology that seamlessly
links each explorer with a player-and-systems management system,
the Master Tracker.
Paul
Chartier and Line Gingras conceived this high tech great adventure
attraction in 1999-2000 as a logical follow-up to their low tech
SOS Labyrinthe. The mandate consisted in creating an international-level
attraction both transportable and adaptable to various themes
for distribution throughout the world.
MayaVentura
first opened its doors for summer ’99 in Montreal before
being shipped in 2000 to its permanent location in La Isla Shopping
Village, Cancun, Mexico.
